Lane travels through the Scottish Highlands along the Road to the Isles
We recently travelled from Fort William to Mallaig along the Road to the Isles in the Scottish Highlands, a 45 mile single carriageway that leads straight to the coast and the islands beyond.
Every week we will be putting up a blog post about each part of the beautiful journey and inspiration along the way.
In the fishing port of Mallaig, on the west coast of the Highlands, you can find some of the best and most fresh fish in the British Isles.
Here is a homemade paella of local haddock, scallops and Mallaig prawns overlooking the Sands of Morar beach.
All of the fish we bought in Mallaig was from Andy Race fish merchants, one of the most renowned fish mongers in the Highlands.
We dined at Jaffy's, a family smokehouse which has been serving the people of Mallaig since 1944. Fish curer and smoker, George Lawrie of Mallaig, has passed on his 100% natural curing processes down the generations.
