Make mornings better with Lane
We are excited to announce the arrival of a timeless collection of stoneware ceramics handmade by Derbyshire studio Parkwood Pottery, in line with the current resurgence of British pottery. The mugs, jugs and bowls are now available to buy on in the new 'ceramics' section of our website!
Stoneware Mugs
We have chosen two beautiful and distinctive glazes for the mugs - Speckled White trimmed with a natural sand brown base (the colour of the unglazed stoneware clay when it is fired to glaze temperature) and Granite Blue with burnt orange flecks (which is iron oxide found in the glaze). The mugs have a matt handmade finish.
These well-crafted mugs are perfect in a pair for tea and coffee and are a stylish addition to breakfast. Hand-thrown mugs make every cup of tea a pleasure to sip. Plus they are dishwasher and microwave safe.
Granite Blue Stoneware Jug
This stoneware ceramic jug that has been hand thrown on Parkwood's potter’s wheel and we chose the original granite blue glaze. Ideal for keeping drinks cool in the summer months.
Salad Bowls
We also chose a stoneware ceramic salad bowl in turquoise and blue on the inside and an earthy sand on the outside. It's ideal for salads but also useful to serve fruit or pasta dishes.
Each bowl is hand glazed causing natural variation in colour and shape and has a handmade matte finish on the outside. They're dishwasher and microwave safe, so perfect for a busy family life.
Making Process
Each item is hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel using a buff, high temperature stoneware clay from Staffordshire. They are hand glazed and then put in the kiln which, depending on the mug’s positioning, causes natural variations in shape and colour, adding to their individual charm.
Parkwood Pottery
Parkwood Pottery is based in Alfreton, Derbyshire and ran by Graeme McKenna and Inga Heppleston. Lane Directors Joff Casciani and Oliver Wood, who are based in Nottingham, discovered the earthy simplicity of Parkwood’s pottery in December 2015 and were thrilled to collaborate with them. Together they have designed simple, functional and thoughtfully designed ceramics.
“It is important to us to keep our product range local. We like to celebrate the skills of the manufacturers around us and invest in local craftsmen.” - Joff Casciani, Lane Director.
