Lane have two tickets to give away for the album launch of The Invisible Orchestra!
When we say ‘biggest’, we mean twenty four Nottingham based musicians and hugely talented guest singers who blast out soul, funk and big brass originals to sold out audiences across the country. This includes a ten minute standing ovation at the recent Craig Charles’ ‘Funk and Soul Show’ in Cardiff!
When we say ‘ambitious’, they have a brand new new album 'Champagne Taste Lemonade Money' that incorporates elements of jazz, funk, soul, Arabic punk, afrobeat, Latin and reggae.
Nottingham’s cultural scene is incredibly strong these days. Years of being overlooked by the London-centric media encouraged an atmosphere of self-reliance and cross-pollination that is bearing considerable fruit in the city.
Out of this do-it-yourself attitude comes The Invisible Orchestra. Put together and led by bandleader James Waring, the ensemble are a perfect example of local friends, colleagues and players. Many have toured internationally and the band includes a Grammy winning organist.
Alongside this cracking team of musicians are the show stopping (and again local) past and present guest vocalists that include the UK’s freshest new soul diva Harleighblu, legendary UK rapper Scorzayzee, Natalie Duncan, Percydread, Hannah Heartshape, MC Spyda (of Pendulum fame) and Ed Bannard of Hhymn with guests nationwide in the pipeline.
Fancy a fabulously odd night out?
With a classic British flavour to their look and style - homburgs and trilbies, silk waistcoats and velvet jackets - the band look like pirates who have spent their badly-earned bounty in a vintage shop! One of the stand outs of an Invisible Orchestra gig is the sartorial effort that the audience also put in themselves. Dressing up boxes are thrown wide open and the weirdest and sharpest suits and ballgowns are worn for the occasion.
The extraordinary Masonic Hall
The Invisible Orchestra launch their debut album in the extraordinary Masonic Hall in Nottingham on Saturday June 4th 2016. The Masonic Hall opened their doors to the public a couple of years ago after many decades of secrecy and myth-making. The building harks back to grander times - wooden panelled walls, winding staircases exhibiting intimidatingly large and stern portraits of past Grand Masters of the Lodge, and glass cabinets full of indecipherable medals and awards. It’s an epic and frankly bizarre setting for a celebration and a concert!
Alongside the main act, the beautiful Ionic Temple room will be hosted by Truth and Lies Music in collaboration with illustrator Catrin Morgan for an audio and visual installation. It will be followed by late night dancing to tropical music from Nigeria to the Caribbean, New Orleans to Brazil.
